Alexander Belanger- Earth Science Director

I am a freshman at UPenn majoring in biochemistry and physics. I was a competitor in Science Olympiad for seven years, competing in diverse life and earth sciences on the state and national level. My favorite events include Anatomy, Disease Detectives, Dynamic Planet, Entomology, and Ornithology. When not doing schoolwork (or preparing for the tournament), I enjoy tutoring, working with plants in the lab, and playing soccer, badminton, table tennis, and ultimate Frisbee.

Eric Frank- Build It Director

I am the current director of build events. I am a freshman in the VIPER program, majoring in electrical engineering and chemistry. Before coming to Penn, I spent 4 years working with the Harriton High School Science Olympiad team. I have national medals in Circuit Lab and Robot Arm, and have competed in several other events at the national level. I have a passion for engineering and I love every facet of SO, including running it. Outside of Olympiad, I also participate in Penn Electric Racing, gymnastics, and a lot of coding projects.

Young-Hun Kim- Operations Director

I am a junior in the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology majoring in Bioengineering and Finance. On campus, I am involved with the Global Development Collaborative as the Director of Health and with the Mack Institute as part of the Student Research Fellowship. I enjoy playing tennis with the UPenn Club Tennis team and I worked at Oliver Wyman during the summer.

Tarun Mallipeddi- Chemistry Director

I am a junior in the College studying Biological Basis of Behavior. I did Science Olympiad for four years in high school, and some of my favorite events were Chem Lab, Forensics, and Anatomy & Physiology. I am also involved with Global Development Collaborative and Club Tennis. Outside of class, I enjoy playing tennis, watching TV, and playing FIFA.

John Powell- Physics Director

I'm a freshman in the School of Engineering studying computer science. I competed for four years with Harriton High School and my favorite events include Astronomy, Fermi Questions, Materials Science, and It's About Time. Now that I have moved on from high school, I am interested in supporting and enlarging the Science Olympiad community to help other students discover their interests in science and engineering.

Eric Shan- Biology Director

My name is Eric and I'm a freshman in the college studying Biochemistry and Biology. Science Olympiad was my favorite activity in high school, and many of my fondest memories are from preparing for and competing in it. My favorite events are Cell Biology, Protein Modeling, and Anatomy and Physiology. Outside of Science Olympiad, I am interested in immunotherapy research, healthcare, and education. I'm also a huge fan of screenwriting, stand up comedy, and most types of music.

Molly BucklinOutreach Director, VP of External Affairs

My name is Molly Bucklin and I'm a junior studying Molecular and Cellular Biology in the college here at Penn. When I'm not in class I can be found doing research in a cellular immunotherapy lab, running, swimming, cooking, or playing piano/teaching lessons. I participated in Science Olympiad from 7th-12th grade in Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) and it completely defined my middle/high school experience. Some of my best memories are from late nights spent fixing my mission possible device, making reference sheets in 3pt size Times New Roman font, and team dinners with the 14 other people who became like second family to me. I'm thrilled to be a part of this board and host Penn's first competition, as well as to have the opportunity to bring Science Olympiad to another local school so that they might have some of the same great experiences that I did.

My name is Tiberiu, or Tibby for short. I am a sophomore in the college studying Biophysics, Physics, and Biochemistry. I’m extremely interested in neurodegenerative diseases, and I am working in the Petersson group, studying alpha synuclein misfolding in Parkinson’s Disease. Science Olympiad was, without a doubt, the most important thing I did in middle school and in high school. My favorite events are Anatomy and Physiology, Protein Modeling, Disease Detectives, and Optics. Some of my favorite things to do are to swim, ski, and to listen to hip-hop music.
